    Tall and slender buildings are susceptible to wind induced vibrations. Tuned mass dampers can bring high comfort to buildings and maximize their service life. Passive, semi-active, and active systems are all used in the construction of buildings and bridges.
     
    Tuned Mass Dampers (TMDs) are an economical and reliable solution for reducing vibrations in buildings, machinery, and equipment.
    The tuned mass damper is based on multiple principles:
    • Passive system
    • Semi-active system
    • Active system
    Passive tuned mass dampers are an effective method for reducing vibration. Composed of a mass body, springs, and dampers. Adjust according to the structure to reduce resonance vibration.
    When there are changes in structural characteristics or insufficient installation space for passive tuned mass damping systems, active and semi-active systems are used.

    Modern structures with slender, cantilevered shapes typically have a lower degree of structural damping, making them susceptible to vibration excitations caused by wind and traffic loads, as well as pedestrian movement. Tuned mass dampers can increase structural damping, thereby reducing resonant vibrations. Tuned mass dampers can be adjusted according to the natural frequency of the structure, consisting of rigid bodies (pendulum or spring), damping elements, and moving mass bodies.

    Principles of semi-active and active systems
    The characteristic of semi-active systems is that the damping characteristics and natural frequency of the tuned mass damper can be permanently adjusted. Therefore, good results can also be achieved in buildings with variable attributes.
    The active system consists of actuators with reactive mass and control units with sensors. By continuously detecting the vibration of the structure to generate damping force, the vibration of the structure can be reduced.
